What could you SWOT?
> Time available
> Potential costs
> access to user
> access to stakeholders
> Potential for manufacturing
> Your subject knowledge
> Experts available
> Materials available
> Resources available
> Existing solutions
> need for a solution
> Change to users lifestyle
For further guidance see section 1:
Strengths =
Positives/ advantages
Weaknesses =
negatives/ disadvantages
Opportunities =
potential areas of the project and areas for future development/ expansion
Threats =
difficulties with exploring the projsct
Potential project examples:
> Easy access to the user and stakeholders
> Clear opportunity/ need for a solution
> Lots of products available for analysis
> Achievable to design and make in the time given
> Is challenging enough for an A Level project
> It would clearly improve the users lifestyle
>you have a substantial understanding of the project area
>You are able to easily contact wider stakeholders and the user
Potential project examples:
> Lots of existing solutions on the market
> limited opportunity for a variety of designs
> Very exclusive project aim
> Is not challenging enough for an A Level project
> Will not allow for you to demonstrate sufficient skills
>There is no real need for the product/ solution
>You are unable to explore the project in much depth
>You are not able to access the user
> you can not contact wider stakeholders easily
Potential project examples:
> Could be expanded to help others
> Could become multipurpose/ use
> Could a solution be developed to perform other functions?
> opportunity for a Version 2 or 3 to be designed and developed
> opportunity to design and prototype a better product than your competitors
Potential project examples:
> Dangerous product/ project
> limited access to specialist equipment
> Limited time for project/ manufacture
> Health & saftey issues
> Limited workshop space for the size of project
> too many competitors making similar or better products
If the above examples dont suit your project - think about the opposite. For example:
Weakness - very exclusive project aim (becomes) Strength - very inclusive project aim
