Keeping you busy over summer...
There are 5 areas to focus on over the summer:
1. subject knowledge/ content (on the SIL document and set as sn assignment on teams)
2. Catching up - Completing unfinished work
3. Practicing your drawing and rendering skills
4. Design ideas for your NEA - see below
5. Review Progress exam
(6. Optional - environmental study)
Work through all of the key terms on the sheet and complete a paragraph to explain each on them. Ensure your explanation includes an example and is in context - see example on sheet.
This has been set as a teams assignment
Anything upto and including your 10 design ideas must be complete before we return after summer. You must ensure your NEA is up to date.
3. Practicing your sketching and presentation
Pick 3 products from home and practice drawing them. For each product, draw them from 3 different angles - you should end up with 9 final drawings.
Not sure how they should look - watch these videos:
Want to look pro - go and buy yourself some markers and paper (the works in bradford centre)
*you will probably find that practice makes progress - your first drawings are not likely to be te best - you must practice.
4. Creating your design ideas: (as discussed in lesson)
Start off with 10 'quick' design ideas (minimum)
Look at each of your 10 and take them to the next level to create 10 detailed design ideas.
Use the info on the design ideas section to guide you.
You should start year 13 with:
> 1 (or 2 pages) of Quick Ideas (minimum of 10)
> 10 in depth/ detailled design ideas (10 pages +) including sketches, sketch models and basic CAD work (building on your 10 quick ideas - consider all components, function and ideas for assembly/ manugfcature
Using the mark scheme sent out in teams, review your progress exam by creteing full mark/ exemplar answers for each question that you didn't score full marks on.
Environmental case study
Focussing on a chosen product, create a thorough case study on it.
unlike A product analysis where you focus more on the product itself, A case study should focus more on the impact it has on people and the planet. Dig deep and look into all aspects of the product from raw material extraction through to transportation and energy use. your research/ investigations should be layered and instigate further research/ investigations.
You can find support for this here:
This case study should be completed as a written report and is expected to be at 3 sides text with additional images.
Any questions, please contact
tom or beth.
Have a great summer.
GooD luck and I look forward to seeing back after the summer.
Remember, if you didn't study GCSE, you still have gaps in knowledge - you should be reviewing the GCSE specification and building your knowledge:
