Measuring and marking out

Things you will need:

> Sharp pencil

> Steel rule

> Tri-square

Stages:

1. measure the position you want you cut line to be

2. Using the tri-square, draw your line across the material.

3. Using the same corner/ edge you used to draw the previous line across your material, draw a line down your material.

4. Make an indication mark on the side you are cutting off

Cutting straight lines

Things you will need:

Vice or clamp

Bench hook

Tenon saw

Stages:

1. Secure the work in the vice

2. Hold the saw appropriately

3. Position your self correctly (body position and stance)

4. Place your saw blade on or next to the line.

5. Drag back a few times to start the cut

6. Slowly and carefully cut.

*If the sawdust covers the line, stop and wipe it away - do not blow it away.

7. Slow right down as you get to the end of the cut to prevent splitting/ splintering the material.

Things you will need:

Vice or clamp

Bench hook

Coping saw

Filing and sanding

Hand files

Sand paper
