Conjunctions:

 

To extend sentences to show a deeper understanding/ knowledge of the topic or subject, you should include the use of conjunctions. These are words used to create limousine sentences (longer ones).

 

Conjunctions include words like:

 

And - to expand on a claim or statement

but - used to introduct a counter to a claim or a statement 

because - connect a claim/ statement to some evidence

so - to describe a cause and effect (relationship to the claim)

Examples:

Tom writes a sentence because it is a useful way to communicate information.

Tom writes a sentence and is getting a headache from looking at the screen.

Tom writes a sentence so his students have an example to follow.

Tom writes a sentence but keeps writing about himself.

Apositives:

 

To further extend sentences you could include the use of appositives. These are words used to define the statement.

 

Examples:

Tom, the students teacher, writes a sentence because it is a useful way to communicate information.

Tom writes a sentence and is getting a headache, a form of pain in his head, from looking at the screen.

Tom writes a sentence, a collection of connecting wordsso his students have an example to follow.

Tom writes a sentence but keeps writing about himself, the teacher of the class.
